Our Athletic Department stands squarely within the classical and Christian traditions. For the ancient Greeks, education was not simply a matter of filling minds with information; it included the body as well as the mind. Transforming bodies was key to transforming minds, which is why physical activity was so crucial to education (as anyone with a grammar school boy can attest!). The ancients did not make a sharp distinction between the two. Our Christian convictions also compel us to treat the human as a whole – mind, body, and soul. Based on these classical and Christian beliefs, we strive to educate the body, not only the mind, and to do so in a way that glorifies Christ.
The Academy is a member of the Heartland Christian Athletic Association (HCAA). Currently, our student-athletes compete in four sanctioned sports: basketball, cross country, track and volleyball. Many of our student-athletes also compete together in community sports, such as baseball, tennis, golf, rowing, soccer, flag football and rock-climbing.
The athletic department exists to support the mission of The Academy by providing students the opportunity to participate in and to love the true, the good and the beautiful through embodying virtue in athletic competition. This will be accomplished through excellence in our administration, coaching and athletes at the grammar and dialectic/rhetoric levels.
Thank you for your interest in athletics at The Academy. We believe athletics can deeply shape one’s character. Please contact us for more information about the various ways you can particpate in and partner with athletics at The Academy.
