The Academy’s Board of Directors is comprised of up to 10 directors, men and women who are fully committed to guarding the school’s mission, serving The Academy community, and providing support to school leadership. Directors typically serve for 3-year terms, and are eligible to serve again after a year hiatus. In addition to serving on the board, directors are eligible to serve on one or more of the board’s committees.
Providing for continuity in its own leadership is one of the most important responsibilities of the Board’s Governance Committee, and so each year The Academy community is invited to provide the Governance Committee with recommendations for new board members. The governance committee shares the recommendations for new directors with the full board, noting how each candidate complements or strengthens the board’s leadership of The Academy community. Those candidates receiving two nominations from existing directors are invited to complete the Director Application. The full board then reviews all applications and votes on each candidate’s membership. A 4/5ths supermajority is required to affirm membership.
