Recently I’ve been pondering the power of the gospel of truth, the grace of God, and the many gifts we are afforded if we learn to walk in His truth and open our hearts and hands to receive His grace. It is for this end that I work at The Academy. My hope doesn’t stop with your students’ hearts. It extends to a hope of what they will do with their lives and how they’ll impact the kingdom of God. When I first met The Academy I was looking for a shift in my life; for a way to be a part of an organization that aimed to develop students with the intention that they can impact our world with Christ’s truth and goodness. You might say I was at a crossroads. I was keenly aware that the pain and depravation in the world was more than I could impact. My 20 year mission to work with the broken and marginalized began to broaden. I wanted to be a part of something that empowered others to be impassioned for the broken and marginalized and driven by God’s truth, goodness, and beauty. I wanted to be a small part in growing disciples to pick of the mantle and care deeply about impacting others with God’s grace filled truth and beauty. Cue The Academy! Know that I believe in our Mission and in our Portraits of a Graduate. These tenants embody my prayers for your teens. As I’ve talked to teachers this week and heard their hearts expressed as they’ve shared classroom conversations with me, I have prayed for the following tenants to take root in your student’s heart. I have prayed that their hearts may be shaped with God’s affections. I believe in community prayers. So I ask that you join me in praying that the below portraits will personify our school culture and will grow in the hearts of all our Rhetoric students!

  • Humbly recognize their place in Christ’s story
  • Expectantly pursue and cherish all that is True, Good, and Beautiful
  • Graciously love their neighbor, especially the most broken and marginalized
  • Joyfully cultivate and embody a cruciform vision of all of life
