Message from Coach MAC
September means that the Athletic seasons are in full swing! We have volleyball and cross country wearing the Griffins navy and grey in various parts of our city and state. Rhetoric basketball preseason begins with 2-3 days a week of workouts. And over 100 Grammar Cross Country runners kick off their 4 meet September series at South next Tuesday! What a sight it is to see 40- 60 Grammar-age students race off the starting line together and then grit their way to the finish! It’s also a great opportunity to support our community at an OUTSIDE venue!
Weekly Sports Recap
It was a busy week for volleyball as all four teams competed this week. The Varsity team competed at the CCS varsity tournament against teams mostly made up of Juniors and Seniors. It was a learning experience for our young team as they competed and battled. All 4 teams were on display Monday night as they took on HCAA rival Destiny Christian. The Blue team took the first set of their first match but ultimately lost in three sets as the third set went to extra points. The White team again kept their undefeated season alive in the next match. And then the Rhetoric teams both lost in a very competitive and lively atmosphere. This is a rivalry that will continue to be a good one for some time. The Cross Country Dialectic teams also were at CCS on Saturday. Coach Rhea again was very pleased with the times, especially for our boys. Our top seven finishers placed in the Top 30. Both teams will venture to East Central University next Thursday to compete.

Student-Athlete Leadership Council Applications Being Accepted
The Athletic Department is now accepting applications for the Student-Athletic Leadership Council. The Leadership Council is a group of student-athletes that will regularly meet with the Athletic Director and staff to discuss issues, team-building, and the future of the athletic department at The ACADEMY. The Council members will give voice to the athletes as well as learn different leadership strategies to take back to their team and give back with service and program opportunities on Gamedays. Those Rhetoric athletes wishing to apply to be on the ALC can stop by the Athletic Office at Midtown and request an application from Coach MAC. All applications will be due by September 4th.
