The ACADEMY Athletic Report – 9.25.20

Message from Coach MAC

“So root…root, root for the Home Team…”

Athletics is often referred to as the front porch of a school. Our athletes wear The ACADEMY and GRIFFINS across their chests as they go out in the community to play other schools. Many times the first impression of our school happens when people see and interact with our athletes or our fans. Our coaches, players, fans, and community must be united in faith, mission, vision, and purpose. We also join together in community at games and get to hang out, yell, and cheer as our students are tested competitively after much physical and mental practice and preparation. Several of our students have gotten together at the last few Volleyball matches and have started to formalize our Student Section. This is cool to see as our students work together to cheer, jeer, and encourage our players and fans alike. Come out October 5th to Midtown for the last home game of the year and know that in the athletic realm it is definitely ok to be part of the crowd!

Weekly Sports Recap

The D&R XC squads ran at Choctaw last Friday against several hundred competitors, mostly large schools. On the girls side both Esperanza Osuna (13th) and Anna Claire Orr finished in the Top 30. Our best boys competitor was Freshmen Jay Abbott. For reference in the boys race there were over 30 Owasso boys runners and they had the Top 6 finishers in the JV race.

The Cross Country Grammar teams had their second meet of the year. The 2nd/3rd grade division again came down to Maggie Flint and Annie Burt, but this time it was Annie that got the victory. The boys had 9 that finished under 8 minutes led by Henry Corbin and Sutton Dearmon. In the 4th/5th grade division there were 6 boys that finished under 7 minutes led by Jack Eckles and Brooks Burt. The girls top finishers were Kenzi Ketron and Kate Jackson. Grammar XC will host a race on October 6th as a make up for the rain out 2 weeks ago.

Is was an exciting week for Volleyball as we had some great wins. The Dialectic White team won the 2nd Annual Griffin JH Volleyball Tournament with a convincing win over the OKC Knights in the championship.

The Dialectic Blue team got it’s first win of the season Monday as our young group has really improved the last few weeks under Coach Smith. After the last point our student section emptied the stands and rushed the floor to celebrate their win. The last home matches of the year will be Monday, October 5th. Make a special effort to come out to Midtown a week from Monday to cheer on our great kids!

Basketball Players must have Physicals to begin season

IF you have not made an appointment with your doctor to do a new physical, you must do that ASAP. Students must turn in their physical, health history, 2 waivers, and the player and parent expectations. Please turn in to the athletic office or your coach ASAP.
