Message from Coach MAC
It’s good to be back and the classes, practices, games, and performances are back on track. We are thankful for the prayerful work of our Board of Governors and Physicians Advisory Group as the school continues to navigate all the activities associated with a school. We are excited for the return of our 3X3 Basketball league and our Dialectic teams are only 3 weeks away from their State Tournament week. As always we are grateful for the work of our parent volunteers who make things go so smoothly on Gamedays. Go Griffins Go!
Weekly Sports Recap
It’s been a busy week and a half as the basketball teams returned to action last Thursday during the Break. Saturday saw several of our teams make up a scheduled date with Cornerstone. The 8th grade boys started the afternoon off with a convincing win (42-28). Mason Broome posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to go along with 5 steals. Hollis Gridley and Sammy Ledet both added 11 points while Bennett Spears and Calvin Thomas contributed 6 rebounds and 6 steals respectively.
In the last game the Varsity Boys avenged a 20-point opening loss last season with a dominating 42-point win (76-34). Freshman Owen Cain recorded his first double-double scoring 18 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. Senior Cameron Bryan also scored in double figures with 13.
Tuesday the Griffins hosted conference-rival Life Christian Academy in a marathon night of games. The MS girls were short-handed back in December when they lost to Life but had all hands on deck as they came out with a 24-20 victory. 8th graders Avery Metcalf (10) and Claire Wilkerson (6) led the girls in scoring after missing the first game. The JV Girls did a great job in a back and forth game limiting the high-scoring point guard from Life. Despite the effort, the girls came up short 25-36. Freshman Azlyn Wickersham led the girls in scoring with 8 points hitting back to back 3’s late in the game. Messiah Macon added 6 points.
The MS Boys Blue team took on Life junior high before the HS games but the shots would not fall. Luke Abbott was a monster on defense tallying 9 steals which led to 11 points. Daniel Ganoa continued his strong Blue campaign scoring 12 points in the loss (31-44).
The Varsity Boys game didn’t start until an hour after scheduled tip, but boys could not wait to play a confident Life squad that had given the Griffins their first loss of the season in December by 3. The Griffins came out and smothered Life Christian’s ultra-quick point guard in route to a 30 point victory. Freshman Sam High set a new school record for points with 23 on 9-14 shooting, including 4 three pointers.
And Thursday the MS Boys White team traveled to Casady where the strength and experience of Casady outlasted the Griffins in a 47-36 loss. Kiefer Garriott led the Griffins in scoring with 10 points.
