Home Days, a haiku by Mr. B
lesson plans ready
children, books, and coffee too
start soon, stick to plan
Wednesday afternoon I went to get a COVID test and as of writing this am still awaiting results. So here I sit, at the kitchen counter in the midst of a blended home day. I have only lived through 6 hours of it and am convinced we don’t pay our home day teachers enough. About 15 minutes into the day, I see that I may be more of a distraction than a help. Although I may have made today a bit harder for everyone, there have been plenty of blessings too. We spent time playing with the baby. We had breakfast and lunch altogether. We conjugated Latin, checked math, and colored our newest letter. (/v/ like van by the way!)
For all the ways this past year has stunk, today was a reminder of why I am still thankful for it. Today, I was forced to slow down and participate in my children’s education in a way that I don’t normally get to. I was able to read our catechism together and smile with my Pre-K’er as she repeated them back to me. I got to review for a history test with my second grader (Roman inventions and the life of Servius). With my fourth grader, I was able to help with fractions. I am so thankful for the effort of our teachers to partner together with parents in the education of the children we have been entrusted with. Thank you for walking with us in a weird year.

Enrollment
With 90% of our current students already enrolled for next year, join me in praying for the Lord’s hand of favor to be upon us as we look to grow our campus. If you have any enrollment questions, feel free to reach out to Lindy Beswick at lbeswick@theacademyok.org. For the first time in a while, we will have waitlists at South Campus. If you are holding out until later, I suggest starting soon to guarantee your spot!
We are looking to hire for 2021-2022

Speech Meet
First round for first through fifth graders will be Monday (February 8) or Tuesday (February 9) with students presenting in their classrooms with another teacher providing feedback. All students will wear formal uniforms on their presentation day. Two students from each class will move forward to the finals on Wednesday (February 10). IF your student is selected for the finals, you will need to bring them to campus in formal uniform.
Parents of finalist may attend and spread out in the sanctuary. You will watch your student present and then move out for another family to come in. This is a great experience and growth time for all students in preparation for the Dialectic and Rhetoric programs. A schedule will be released Tuesday to the Finalists. (Start time will be 8:20 and students will present every 10 minutes. We’ll begin the time with 1/2 Grade Finalists and move up in age.)
Can’t join us to watch the Speech Meet Finals? We will be broadcasting live all morning! Every 10 minutes, starting at 8:20, a student will get up to present their piece. Join us on Zoom via this link – https://theacademyok.zoom.us/j/94079376708?pwd=SXpxQ1pRUmdHOG40b2svZ3BBUU5DZz09
