The ACADEMY Athletic Report – 3.12.21

Message from Coach MAC

One year is 365 days. A season is a lifetime. It takes forever for a season to start, but then it flies by. These are all truths in athletics; and the time during the season and preparing our athletes this past year have both felt like an eternity and a blink. Griffin Madness was the last activity that our school community joined in together a year ago this week. And one year later we were forced to cancel this fun event. But we as Griffins have remained Strong and completed 3 different sport seasons and are beginning a 4th! I continue to be amazed at the perseverance and dedication of our student-athletes, staff, and community. They long to be together in fellowship and athletics provides that opportunity. As we enter the home stretch of the year it appears that there is light on the horizon and that we will soon be able to return to a “more normal” reality next season. I long for the time when we can all gather together and unite in the stands of cheer: Go Griffins Go!

Weekly Sports Recap

Our Grammar students and volunteer coaches wrapped up the inaugural 3X3 Basketball season last Saturday. Five of the seven scheduled weeks of games were able to be completed plus some flex date games. The make up dates had to be cancelled due to the winter weather storms pushing the high school State tournament dates back. But despite the starts and stops, the teams showed great improvement from November thanks to the tireless efforts of our parent volunteers. The future of our athletic teams could not be successful without the dedication and efforts of our parents!

The Track team will not be participating in the track meets scheduled for Friday, March 12th. The coaches are eyeing March 27th for the first meet in order to give more time to prepare.

Athletic Banquet Planned

The 2020-21 Athletic Banquet is scheduled for Monday, May 10th. This year’s banquet will honor the Rhetoric Athletes from the last 2 years. We will be honoring the High School teams and 4 seniors. Depending on Covid protocols, 8th graders may be invited pending space and total numbers.
