Message from Coach MAC
Great time for an extended break following a long season like basketball. Unfortunately, it felt like my trip to Florida took nearly as long as the season! Between 8 flight delays, 2 flight changes, a shared UBER, and a 3-hour hotel stay, I finally reunited with my family on 30A! The trip was exhausting, but the payoff was refreshing as we got to experience family, great food, and a little but of sun. This is not unlike an athletic season where there are ups and downs, pitfalls and bumps along the way, but in the end we can look back and feel great about the experiences we had together. As we continue to grow and build our programs, we look forward to all of the experiences that go into each season with each team and program. Last week the Track teams will debut after a 2-year hiatus under the guidance of Josh Spears. We are excited for what this last sport season of an unforgettable year will look like. Go Griffins Go!
Weekly Sports Recap
The Middle School Track team debuted for the first time in 2 years at Bethany last Thursday. The team had an excellent showing with 7th Grader Julia Jackson finishing 2nd place in the 400 meter race! The High School Track team also debuted at Bethany on Saturday.
Several of our North parents have organized a pilot Grammar Volleyball program for 3rd and 4th graders this Spring. There are over 40 girls split across four teams. Many of our D&R Volleyball players are also helping coach the teams giving them opportunity to help build the volleyball teams of the future. The girls will play 8 games at Midtown over the next 2 months.
Athletic Banquet Planned
The 2020-21 Athletic Banquet is scheduled for Monday, May 10th. This year’s banquet will honor the Rhetoric Athletes from the last 2 years. We will be honoring the High School teams and 4 seniors. Depending on Covid protocols, 8th graders may be invited pending space and total numbers. Please save the date as we continue to plan according to changing school COVID protocols.
2021-2022 Athletic Intent to Participate
All Dialectic and Rhetoric students who wish to participate in Athletics next year need to fill out the Intent to Participate Form. This form helps the department plan for scheduling and rosters. Click here:
