The South Campus Serials – 9.3.21

From your South Campus Principal, Grant Bickell

Each day our entire school gathers, in three different locations, to pause and pray. We pause to remember why we are here. For the glory of Jesus Christ and the good of man. There are moments of call and response, scripture reading, singing, and prayer all joined together with the saints that have gone before us and with those praying the same or similar things around the world with us. Why do we begin this way? C.S. Lewis in his Letters to Malcolm may just say it best, “Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.”

When I first got into classical ed, I must admit, this freaked me out. I mean, praying rote prayers was basically sin, right? Maybe you didn’t glean that from growing up, but I most certainly did. To pray the prayers of someone else was pointless. Heck, even the Lord’s Prayer was meant to be a guide and not meant to be prayed consistently. Over the last few years of praying them daily, I have come to learn what a blessing they really are. Why? Because it gives an opportunity to each of us to practice our reliance on God.

Below you will find some of our prayer resources as well as our house calls and responses for your use as you join us. Several families are sticking around for Matins and Evensong, and I wanted to resource you well!
