From your Midtown Principal, Rhonda Jones

Parents, The Rhetoric Kickball House Tournament is beginning!  If your student asks to pack athletic pants or shorts to change into at lunch on Tuesday Sept. 14th – the answer is YES!  If your student asks you to purchase face paint in their House color – the answer is YES – or “fun idea….awesome that you thought to use your own money for that”!  If your student asks to bring House swag ranging from bandanas, headpieces, etc. – the best response will be “do you think that’s enough or should you pack more?” THIS IS A BIG DEAL ON CAMPUS!  Tuesday is also a Spirit Day.

This is a day when students WILL want to wear House shirts.  The newly issued Tie-Dye shirts are welcome!  Students will begin the day in jeans (please avoid rips/holes) and House shirts.  They will be given time to change before competition begins.  It’s fast, it’s furious, and it’s a TON of fun!  If you’ve always wondered what happens during this time, please join us!  We play in the FBC gym from 11:15 to 12:25pm on Tuesday the 14th!  Not only will you see your students having a great time, you will see our wonderful staff engage in ways that reveals how much House Spirit they have.  It’s a lot and often very humorous to see play out!!!  😊

A Few Logistics

  1. Monday Sept. 13th – Individual picture day and formal uniform.
  2. Moms In Prayer at Midtown – Please join Midtown Moms as we begin a Moms in Prayer International group. Weekly 1 hour meetings begin on Monday Sept. 13th at 8:15am.  Prayer will be scripture based and involve praying for students, teachers, and the campus culture.  Meetings will occur in the FBC prayer room, located on the first floor.  Park in the North lot, enter the door behind the playground, and go up one flight of stairs.  The FBC Prayer Room is on the left.  Signage will direct you.  Contact Marsha Sanborn at 405.757.9679 with questions.  She is our gracious host for this special effort!
  3. PSAT at Midtown – The Rhetoric School is an approved testing site for the PSAT, SAT, & ACT. If your student is a 10th or 11th grader, you received an email on Sept. 2nd from Julianna Osuna, Post-Secondary Advisor, announcing PSAT testing on Oct. 13th.  Please refer to that email and enroll your student if you desire them to take the PSAT.
  4. Midtown Substitutes Needed – Parents, please consider serving as a Rhetoric substitute. You may also recommend trusted friends and family.  Our substitute pool is tragically low, which has already proved problematic.  We don’t require subs to teach complex materials.  Sub plans range from independent work assignments to easy management over group discussions or readings.   Please contact me at  rjones@theacademyok.org  Substituting at Midtown typically involves breaks throughout the day and is honestly, a VERY fun way to spend your day.  How can it not be when you’re given the chance to spend time with some of the best students who walk the halls of U.S. high schools!
  5. Parent/Teacher Conferences – Oct. 18th & 19th!! We ask that parents of students new to the Rhetoric school sign up for meetings with all teachers.  Upperclassmen parents are invited to sign up, but not required.  If your student is a seasoned Rhetoric student and is struggling in a particular class, that teacher will reach out to you and request a meeting.  Kelley, Assistant Principal, will email detailed instructions with sign-up options.  We aim to streamline this process as much as possible.  We create schedules that allow you (for the most part) to sequentially manage your meetings.  Maps and directories will be located in the school office upon your arrival.  Teachers will joyfully welcome you.  Our team is looking forward to discussing how we can partner with you to aide your student’s growth!
