Record Breaking Win at Westmoore
This past weekend, The Academy’s District Debate team traveled to Westmoore to compete against Edmond Santa Fe, Edmond Memorial, Norman North, and Enid High School. After Friday’s rounds ended, The Academy had students in 15 of the top 16 seeds moving into Saturday’s elimination rounds (with 9th grade Rhetoric student, Noah Steves, as 1st seed of the bracket!). After Saturday’s rounds ended, 10th grader George Leydorf received 3rd place with 10th grader Nick Simon in 2nd place. Special shout-out to 6th grader Jessie Carter for finishing 4th place — the highest placement for any 6th grader in the history of The Academy’s debate program (and perhaps the history of Oklahoma high school debate).
Nuntius
Near the end of The High King, the concluding volume of the Chronicles of Prydain, Taliesin the bard tells Taran, the hero of those books, “Learning is not the same as wisdom.” I nodded my head and added silently, “And a curriculum is not the same as an education.” Click here to read more from our Director of Educational Development, Mr. Jamie Cain.
Athletics
The Academy Boys JV Basketball Team won their season opener Thursday night 34-33 in an exciting game that went down to the wire. During the exciting last minute, Bennett Spears made a free throw with 10 seconds left that proved to be the difference. Hollis Gridley led the Griffins with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Luke Abbott (7 points, 6 steals, 3 rebounds) and Calvin Thomas (7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals) both played excellent all-around games as well.
Varsity girls also started out their season strong. They faced Life Christian Thursday night and won 48-34. Sydney Kitchen led the team in scoring with 18 points and Cora Shutt added 15 points.
Varsity teams will face Glencoe on Tuesday night.

Lessons and Carols
The service of Nine Lessons and Carols is an historic service used during the seasons of both Advent and Christmas, in which we meditate upon and give worship to Almighty God through readings from Holy Scripture and carols of praise and thanksgiving for His coming. The Scripture lessons take the worshiper through the full history of our salvation from Genesis to the Gospels, and the carols give us an opportunity to respond to the goodness of God in praise. As we walk into this humble moment, may we center our hearts and minds on Jesus and may we lean into the reverence of this special moment as our students lead us in worship.
