Students at The Academy compete in three types of debate.
Lincoln Douglas (LD) is a 1-on-1 style of debate. Students prepare two cases; one in favor and one against a given topic. This style of debate derives its name from Abraham Lincoln’s 1858 senatorial campaign against Stephen Douglas.
Big Question (BQ) is a 1-on-1 debate style and prepare two cases on an abstract, philosophical topic.
World School Debate (WSD) is a 3-on-3 style of team debate. Students prepare and argue cases together on a given global issue.
