Grammar Curriculum

The core curriculum used throughout the Grammar grades include Story of the World, Math in Focus, Logic of English, Well-Ordered Language, and Spell to Write and Read.

Kindergarteners, students study cultures from around the world and listen to their teacher read quality literature like Alice in Wonderland and Around the World in 80 Days. 

In first grade students begin studying the Old Testament and Ancient Egypt, read books like Bears on Hemlock Mountain and The Courage of Sarah Noble, and investigate weather and habitats.

Second graders study Judges to Kings in Bible and Ancient Civilizations in history.  Some of their reading consists of Charlotte’s WebAesop’s Fables, and Little House in the Big Woods.  In science, students are learning about famous scientists and the scientific method.

The third grade picks up Bible with Chronicles through Malachi and reads adventures like The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Adventures of Robin Hood, which corresponds to their study of Medieval History.  Students in third grade also learn the basics of physics and electricity.

Our fourth graders begin studying the Gospels and read classics like Old YellerThe Secret Garden, and Johnny Tremain.  Their history begins with the Age of Exploration and spans through the Revolutionary War.  A large focus of science for the year is the study of birds.

Fifth grade completes the Bible with Acts through Revelation and continues with classics like Where the Red Fern Grows, The Hobbit, The Hiding Place, and Anne of Green Gables.  Fifth graders study Modern History with an emphasis on the history of the United States and in science, they dive deep into cells, plants, and the human body.
