Rachel Blankenship, DO, MPH
Dr. Blankenship attended medical school at Des Moines University, where she also obtained a Master’s of Public Health degree. She completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and a fellowship in Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Blankenship and her family moved to Oklahoma after the completion of her training, and she now works as a pediatric physiatrist at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital. She has two daughters, the oldest of which just finished PK-3 at The Academy.
Michael Porter, MD
Dr. Porter attended med school and completed his residency at the University of Oklahoma. He currently works as an emergency physician for Norman Regional Hospital and co-medical director of the emergency department. He also serves as a core faculty member for Norman’s emergency residency program. Dr. Porter’s son, Harvey, attends PreK at The Academy.
James T. Woodsen, MD, FACEP
Dr. Woodsen is a Board-Certified Emergency Physician whose passion is to serve. After attending Oklahoma Christian University and graduating from Medical School at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Woodson completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Carolinas Medical Center and went on to serve the East Texas community at the Good Shepherd Health System. Today, Dr. Woodson has returned home to Oklahoma and serves as the Founder and CEO of Pulsara, a global communication and Telehealth platform that connects teams across organizations. Pulsara is also playing a critical role in assisting public safety, emergency managers, and the healthcare industry with COVID-19 preparedness and response plans.
Matthew Austin, DO, FACP
Dr. Austin is a native Oklahoman. He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BA in English Literature, then completed a Masters Degree in Biosciences and Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine. After completing his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma, Dr. Austin now works for Mercy Clinics in Oklahoma City. He is married to Mary Kathryn and has 3 children, Abigail, John, and William.. His oldest two children attend The Academy.
Julia Rygaard, MD
Anesthesiologist Julia Rygaard completed residencies at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. She completed her internship at Providence Medical Center in Portland, Ore., and earned her medical degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Dr. Rygaard works with OU Physicians and is also an associate professor at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Dr. Rygaard’s two sons attend The Academy.
Charles Garriott, DO
Dr. Garriott is an Emergency Medicine Physician at St. Anthony’s in Oklahoma City. Dr. Garriott has four children who attend The Academy.
Rachna May, MD
Dr. May attended medical school at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Duke Children’s Hospital. After working for a few years in Cleveland, Dr. May moved back home to Oklahoma with her husband. Currently, she practices as a pediatric hospital and palliative care physician at The Children’s Hospital of Oklahoma. Dr. May has three sons; the oldest will start at The Academy this fall.
Joe Broome, MD
Dr. Broome is board certified in family medicine and has been in private practice in Oklahoma City since 2005. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and then graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Kaley, and their four children, Mason, Jolie, Blake, and Hattie, all of whom attend The Academy.
