Grammar text books include: Story of the World, Math in Focus, Logic of English (PreK-5th) and Well Ordered Language (3rd-5th).
In PreK, A Year of Playing Skillfully, by Classical Academic Press is introduced. This is accompanied with read-aloud literature books in the classroom and hands-on centers that reinforce our classical curriculum. Students work through the Biblical story by reading the Jesus Storybook Bible.
Kindergarteners study cultures from around the world and listen to their teacher read quality literature like Alice in Wonderland, Paddington, The Wizard of Oz and Around the World in 80 Days. They learn 150 spelling words and memorize 26 scripture verses. Students work through the Biblical story by reading the Jesus Storybook Bible.
In 1st grade students study the Pentateuch and Ancient Egypt, read books like Bears on Hemlock Mountain, Frog and Toad Treasury, King Tut’s Mummy and The Courage of Sarah Noble. First graders begin their writing education using IEW and also learn the basics of cursive handwriting.
Our 2nd graders study Judges to Kings in Bible and Ancient Civilizations in history. Their literature includes Nate the Great, Charlotte’s Web, Aesop’s Fables, Pinocchio, The Boxcar Children and Little House in the Big Woods. They continue their writing education with IEW and master cursive handwriting in preparation for third grade.
The 3rd grade picks up Bible with Chronicles through Malachi and reads adventures like King Arthur and his Knights,The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Door in the Wall, The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Mixed-up Files of Mrs.Basil E. Frankweiler and The Tale of Despereaux which correspond to their study of Medieval History. They continue to work through IEW. Third graders begin their study of Latin using Latin Through Stories.
Our 4th graders begin studying the Gospels and read classics like Old Yeller, The Secret Garden, Witch of Blackbird Pond, Carry on Mr. Bowditch, Sign of the Beaver, Johnny Tremain, Robinson Crusoe and The People Could Fly as an in-class read aloud. Their history begins with the Age of Exploration and spans through the Revolutionary War. A “Living History Museum” is the hallmark of their festivities. Writing becomes richer while using Writing with Rhetoric curriculum.
5th grade completes the Bible with Acts through Revelation and continues with classics like Where the Red Fern Grows, The Hobbit, The Hiding Place, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, Wrinkle in Time, Across Five Aprils and Anne of Green Gables. Fifth graders study Modern History with an emphasis on the history of the United States. Fifth grade students learn how to write a Chreia – a nine paragraph persuasive essay.
Science – Our Kindergarten through 5th Grade students work from the FOSS (Full Option Science System) science curriculum; a hands-on program designed to spark curiosity in young students. Through a series of inquiry-based modules, students explore the wonders of the natural world, from the smallest insects to the vastness of space.
